After Anwar, Machang MP wants RSN Rayer referred to Dewan Rakyat’s Rights and Privileges Committee

OPPOSITION MP Wan Ahmad Fayshal Wan Ahmad Kamal (PN-Machang) has filed a motion to refer Jelutong MP RSN Rayer to the Dewan Rakyat’s Rights and Privileges Committee (RPC) for the latter’s purported remarks on former prime ministers (PM) Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin and Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad.

This is the second motion of such nature by the Bersatu Youth chief after having also referred Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim to the RPC on March 29 for purportedly misleading the Dewan Rakyat about the tax-exempt status of Yayasan Albukhary.

He outlined three offences by Rayer which he described as “serious” and “warranted action”, namely:

  • Slandering Perikatan Nasional (PN) MPs for refusing to discuss the Auditor-General’s Report 2021 Series 2 (AG Report 2021) due to the issue of leakages, irregular payments and wastages when this was an issue of the government’s failure to allow the Parliament to function accordingly by denying the role of the Public Accounts Committee (PAC).
  • Defaming Muhyiddin who is also the Bersatu president and PN chairman by linking leakages in the procurement of ventilators during COVID-19 to the Emergency declared by the then premier.

“This accusation is not accurate because the direct cost’ from shortage of the ventilator procurement is not the fault of the emergency but due to the procedures of the Health Ministry (MOH),” Wan Ahmad Fayshal told the Dewan Rakyat yesterday (June 7).

  • Defaming Dr Mahathir by claiming that the country’s longest serving PM insulted the royal institution and their family members by moving the Malay Proclamation agenda, hence his Tun-ship should be stripped of in addition to accusing Dr Mahathir teaming up with Muhyiddin as a move to destroy this country.

“Such allegation is clearly an outright slander and misleading to the Dewan Rakyat,” claimed Wan Ahmad Fayshal.

Dewan Rakyat speaker Tan Sri Johari Abdul confirmed receiving the Machang MP’s “beautifully worded letter” but will refer to the June 6 Hansard before deciding on the next cause of action (whether to refer Rayer to the RPC) in line with the Standing Orders of the august house.

With regard to Dr Mahathir, Rayer had during the debate on the AG report 2021 on Tuesday (June 6) urged the government to consider revoking the former’s Tun-ship if he continued to attack the Royal institution.

Additionally, the DAP lawmaker also ticked off Dr Mahathir for looking to cooperate with Muhyiddin to oppose PM Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

“Dr Mahathir who is involved in the Malay Proclamation is possibly working with Pagoh (Muhyiddin), who had previously ‘betrayed’ him. The two leaders want to create problems and want to stop Tambun (Anwar) from doing his job to protect the welfare of the people,” Rayer had pointed out. – June 8, 2023
