Newly minted Bersatu Youth chief has several ‘baggage’ apart from being Azmin Ali’s ‘macai’

A SEEMINGLY pro-Madani government backer has greeted with open arms news of Gombak Setia state assemblyman Muhammad Hilman Idham being elected as the new Bersatu Youth chief for the 2024-2027 term to replace Wan Ahmad Fayhsal Wan Ahmad Kamal who had to step down due to age factor.

“Hilman’s victory as the new Bersatu Youth chief is good news for us,” penned Tok Perak (@TokPerak8) on the X platform. “Hilman will bring a cartel culture into Bersatu and will destroy the party from within.”

Deemed a henchman of former Selangor Menteri Besar and now Perikatan Nasional (PN) information chief Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali, one commenter reckoned that the latter who is also the Hulu Kelang state assemblyman will likely rely on Hilman “to test the waters if he should contest the Bersatu top post”.

Recall that Hilman had served as political secretary to Azmin during his tenure as Economic Affairs Minister (2018-2020) and Senior International Trade and Industry Minister (2020-2022).

But others speculated that Hilman’s movement would be “very restricted” given that the so-called “safe houses” allegedly linked to Azmin have been raided by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission’s (MACC) in connection with a multi-million ringgit corruption scandal involving a sand mining concession.

But some teased if Hilman should be dubbed as “Hellman” or “Hitman” due to his indirect involvement in a rape case where the victim to have been raped by the former’s aide (who has since be found guilty and sentenced to 13 years’ imprisonment and two strokes of the cane) despite she having fallen in love with the 35-year-old second term state assemblyman.

This is especially so in a Sinar Harian post which reported that Hilman toppled his nearest contender Akmal Zahin Zainal Zahir after having polled 1,888 votes against Zahin’s 1,718 votes for a majority of only 170 votes. –  Oct 31, 2024
