IN HIS quest to defuse public rage over his rampant travel abroad which culminated in billions of unverified “potential investments” Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has found himself being thrown deeper into the fire.
Brickbats – some funny, others derogatory – were seemingly hurled at him from all corners in these two related NST Online Facebook posts aptly headlined “Anwar: I Travel Abroad to Represent Malaysia, Not for Leisure”.
Speaking about his recent 24-hour journey from Brazil at the launch of the Madani Rakyat Terengganu 2025 Programme in Kuala Terengganu yesterday (July 13), PMX claimed that he often faces gruelling schedules but remains committed to his duties.
“You think I enjoy flying abroad? I represent Malaysia whenever I travel — it’s not for leisure,” he replied to the amusement of learned and very much informed Malaysians who have seemingly lost faith in him.
Instead of silencing his critics, little did PMX realise that “silence is golden” would be the best policy for someone who is now living in a glass house.
One stinging comment would be that his only son (from six children) Mohammad Ihsan Anwar being spotted during his recent three-nation tour, particularly during his official trip to Rome.
“In couple of his trips, there were claims that his son tag along,” one witty commenter hit out. “Can he (PMX) explain on what capacity? If it’s personal, can he show the supporting payments, it. air ticket, hotels, meals, etc?
The commenter who is also a law practitioner further quantified that working 24×7 “doesn’t make PMX a great guy or someone that we should appreciate”.
Elaborating on the participation of PMX’s son on his overseas trips, former Barisan Nasional (BN) strategic communication deputy director Datuk Eric See-To had on July 3 exposed that third child of PMX had also been spotted in PROTON’s visit to Kazakhstan and even met with the country’s PM.
“Before this, his face had appeared in several official visits of PMX or programmes involving Malaysian government delegations,” the opposition-slant (pro-Datuk Seri Najib Razak) influencer who also goes by the pseudonym Lim Sian See penned on his FB page.
“So, it’s time for PMX to explain publicly what exactly is his son’s official position? Does he work with PMX? Or with MITI (Investment, Trade ad Industry Ministry)? Or where?
“If PMX can twice announced the appointment of his daughter, Nurul Izzah, as an advisor to the PM and then advisor to Finance Minister (ie himself), why not be transparent about his son as well?”
