UMNO MPs will continue to support the Perikatan Nasional (PN) Government until Parliament sits, said Umno Supreme Council member Puad Zarkashi.
He revealed that this was one of the matters that was decided during the Umno Supreme Council meeting on Wednesday evening, which he claimed was leaked by former Barisan Nasional (BN) secretary-general Tan Sri Annuar Musa.
“Now there are several parties who are attempting to spin the Supreme Council’s decision,” he said in a Facebook post, referring to Umno’s formal withdrawal of support for Tan Sri Mahiaddin Yassin as prime minister.
Puad went on to allege that Annuar had leaked video recordings of the Supreme Council meeting which contained other details that were discussed, including the decision to allow Umno MPs to use their own discretion if there was a vote in Parliament.
“Where did Annuar get all this (the video recording)? Who supplied it to him? Of couse, it must have been the ‘scheme of things’ cluster who were there,” Puad wrote.
Puad was referring to Umno leaders who were given Cabinet or government-linked companies (GLC) positions which was allegedly part of Mahiaddin’s strategy to buy support.
“Annuar has been a member of the Umno Supreme Council for a long time. Not everything will be mentioned in the press release. Furthermore, it is no secret there are a few MPs, including himself, who reject the Supreme Council decision.”
“It was also mentioned during the meeting that Umno MPs will continue supporting the PN Government until Parliament reconvenes. Just two more weeks – why didn’t Annuar leak that fact too?”
Puad also claimed that at the meeting, deputy prime minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob also warned that Umno retracting support for Mahiaddin may result in DAP supporting the prime minister as the party had supposedly signed a Confidence and Supply Agreement (CSA) with the Mahiaddin administration.
“Was it true, or was it propaganda? If this is true, does this mean that we are in cahoots with a government that wants to play nice with DAP just so that the prime minister can remain in power?”
According to Puad, it was clear that the prime minister had felt that he was being pushed to the corner, which would then explain why he had appointed Ismail as his deputy, and Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein as the new senior minister for security on Wednesday afternoon, just hours before the Supreme Council meeting. – July 9, 2021.
